This JUGGLER’S best magic trick!

by Nathan Dorrell

PROPS: one towel (yellow or white probably looks most like a chicken for effect.)

The set-up: "Several of you have asked me to do a magic trick. I just want you to know that I’m a juggler, not a magician. I try magic tricks, but most people laugh at me when I try. Do you want me to try anyway?" (I’ve never had them say no.) Then proceed to use the towel to do the disappearing leg trick (by lifting your leg as you lift the towel off the ground.) "Not a good trick?" (they usually let you know they knew how it was done.) "Ok. What if I could make a chicken appear out of this towel?" (Now you’re talking!)

steps 1, 2 and 3

Step 1: roll towel up like a scroll. (come up with some patter as you do it, like, "I’ve watched magicians do this, I think they have the chicken taped on their back. . .not me, see. Other magicians always have a magic curtain…Well, I don’t)

Step 2: fold the scroll in half so that the rolls are on the outside and pull each of the four corners of the towel up out of the center of each roll.

Step 3: grab each pair of opposite corners and pull firmly away from each other. (You are now holding a chicken and your audience is laughing.)

THE MESSAGE: I told you I was a juggler. (juggle eggs...of course if you're not a juggler...please don't.  You could just use the chicken trick and palm an egg in one hand unseen...switch hands you're holding the chicken in, and let it fall out.)  My best chance to make a real chicken appear is if one of these hatches--and let me tell you, hatching is a lot different from cracking one open on the floor (oops.)   I couldn’t take that towel and make a real chicken appear. But God took the dust of the ground and made a man.  He took one rib out of that man and made a woman. Not only did he make the first man and woman, Psalm 139:13 tells us that He made you, "Thou didst weave me in my mother's womb."  That's amazing!  The one who keeps the planets in their place so they do not fall loved you enough to weave you together and make you who you are from the beginning of your life.  He loves you!  He's the one that deserves our honor and praise...not any juggler or magician or pro-athlete.  He’s more amazing than any juggler, magician or athlete you’ll ever see! Don't you think you should put your life into His perfect hands?
