A Paper Airplane Message an old trick everyone should know by Nathan Dorrell Take a typical piece of typing paper or notebook paper. In these pictures, we've drawn a dashed line where we want you to fold, a blue line to represent the top edge of the paper, red lines represent folds that have already taken place |
|
1. Fold the top 1/3 down as represented by the dotted line.
|
2. Now fold the product of step one along the dotted line shown above. |
3. This is what you have after step number two. Unfold from step 2 and proceed to step 4. |
|
4. Fold the top two edges to line up with the center fold and make a house top. |
5. This is what you should have after step 4. Note that there is still only ONE layer of paper at the bottom half of your house shape. Refold along the center fold (red line) |
6. Fold along the dotted line to make a wing on this side of your plane. Then do the same to the other side to make the second wing. |
|
|
This is a picture of your final product! Now for the Message To share a message with your plane, just follow the following instructions: |
|
|
1. Begin using the story below or a story that you make up that works for you. Fold plane wings back together and tear along the dotted line shown. |
2. This is the "jet" that results from the tear in step 1. Now unfold 1 fold to open up the jet. |
3. This is the "space shuttle" or "rocket" that results from opening the jet one fold. Now unfold the rest of the way. |
|
|
4. When unfolded all the way, this cross is the final product. Note: The closer your tear is in step one to the bottom of the plane the thinner your cross, the further away the tear is from the bottom of the plane, the thicker it will be. |

The Story: There once was a man who wanted to go to heaven. He decided that heaven was high in the sky and that he just had to do the right things to get closer to God. So he built a plane. He got in his plane and flew high into the sky. When he got back down to earth, had he found heaven? (no of course not) So he decided that he just didn't do enough of the right things and didn't get close enough to God. He was determined to get to heaven, so he made some modifications to his plane and made it into a jet. This time he went even higher and faster...he went way past the clouds. When he got back down to earth, had he found heaven? (no, of course not!) You're right, he didn't. So, he decided he still had to work harder to get to heaven. He finally made it down to NASA and got on the space shuttle. This time he didn't just pass the clouds, he BLASTED OFF and passed the moon....When he got back to earth, had he found heaven? (No, of course not!) Why is that? Why hadn't he found heaven?....Because the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ (unfold the cross) In John 14:6 Jesus says, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." That's true for everyone--the only way we can get to heaven is through Jesus! You might think it's crazy that someone would think a plane, a jet or a rocket could get them to heaven, but you'd be surprised how many people are relying on a church, their good work, or their spiritual knowledge to get to heaven. None of that will work! We can't work hard enough to get there, or go to church enough to get there, but we can repent of our sins and trust in Jesus Christ!
(The
original version
of this
trick includes tearing straight across the wings twice. Making two----
inch wide strips. When you do this, you will end up with 9 pieces
of
paper…one
is the cross. Three pieces make a capital "H" and three make a capital
"E". There will be two pieces that are capital "L’s". In
other words, you wind up with a cross, representing heaven, and a
puzzle that
spells "HELL." This trick has commonly been used with a story about a
"ticket to heaven". The reason I choose the above version over the
original version is that it is more useful if performing in front of a
large
crowd...you don't have to be able to hold all the other pieces up or
tape them to a wall, you just hold up the cross....but if you have a
small class you could use this version and just place the pieces on a
table...I have used it in front of a large croud using an
overhead...just placing the pieces on an overhead and letting the
shadow spell HELL on the wall or screen and showing the cross.

The story goes like
this: There was a man who loved to tell people about how
they could get to heaven. He even caried a ticket around (hold up
the folded up airplane without the wings folded down) he told people it
was his "ticket to heaven." Then he would tell people how he knew
he had a ticket to heaven. One day, he didn't have time to tell
the man he was talking with how he knew he would be in heaven. He
was about to tell the man when they were both hit by a car and
killed. The two men stood in line together in heaven and somehow
(for the sake of our story) the one man was still holding his
ticket. So the other man said, "I never did get my ticket."
Would you tear off a little of your ticket so I could get it...so the
man tore a little off and gave it to the man. Then the man said,
"you still have such a large ticket and mine is so small, could you
spare just a little more of yours for me. The man told him the
ticket didn't mean anything, but he tore some more off for him.
Then the man who didn't have a ticket, but now held two pieces of the
other man's ticket got to the entrance of heaven. He laid down
his ticket and said, it's a little messed up, but I got my ticket
in. But Saint Peter said, this isn't a ticket to heaven...let's
see (piece the puzzle together) I'm sorry, but your forgot the most
important thing in life...this is a ticket to Hell. The man
turned to the other guy and said, "You told me you had a ticket to
heaven!" The man said, "I just hold this in my hand to tell
people about JESUS (unfold the cross) so they can believe in him to be
saved and have that place in heaven."
